Avoidable digital certificate issues fuel data breaches

In 58% of the cases where firms experienced data breaches, problems with digital certificates were to blame, according to a report by AppViewX and Forrester Consulting. 57% of respondents claimed that their firms have spent more than $100,000 per outage as a result of service interruptions.

The Forrester study states that “Enterprise organizations have typically been less focused on managing machine identities than they have been on managing human ones, in part because they have distinct requirements and more challenging lifecycle and security concerns. These digital certificates provide authentication and safeguard confidential data. Few [organizations] are, however, confident in their ability to divide up responsibilities for privacy and security while layering and managing identity security across devices.
