Checkmate ransomware hits QNAP NAS devices


Checkmate is a new ransomware attack that targets users of network-attached storage (NAS) equipment, according to a warning from QNAP Systems. The company claims that preliminary examination shows Checkmate attacks via SMB services accessible to the internet and uses a dictionary attack to compromise accounts with weak passwords.
