Cybercriminals Hijacking Vulnerable SSH Servers in New Proxyjacking Campaign

Targeted SSH servers are under attack in a financially motivated initiative that aims to covertly incorporate them into a proxy network. According to Akamai researcher Allen West’s recent report, attackers are utilizing SSH for remote access and running malicious scripts to enlist victim servers into P2P proxy networks like Peer2Profit or Honeygain. Unlike cryptojacking, proxyjacking exploits idle bandwidth on victim servers, allowing threat actors to profit from it while minimizing resources needed for cryptojacking.
