Experts found the first LockBit encryptor that targets macOS systems

The finding is alarming and highlights the group’s intention to broaden its operation to include Apple systems. The zip bundle did indeed contain “previously unknown encryptors for macOS, ARM, FreeBSD, MIPS, and SPARC” architectures, according to BleepingComputer.

The archive has been bundled as March 20, 2023, and it also includes builds for PowerPC CPUs, which are used in earlier macOS computers, the experts pointed out. ’locker_Apple_M1_64’ is the name of one of Lockbit’s encryption programmes that can encrypt data on Mac computers using the Apple silicon M1 chip.
