Experts Unveil Exploit for Recent Windows Vulnerability Under Active Exploitation

Information has been available on a now fixed actively exploited security hole in Microsoft Windows that could be used by a threat actor to gain root access to vulnerable PCs. The elevation of privilege flaw affects the Win32k component and is listed as CVE-2023-29336. It has a severity rating of 7.8.

In an alert released last month as part of Patch Tuesday updates, Microsoft stated that “An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain SYSTEM privileges."x000D The vulnerability was found and reported by Avast researchers Jan Vojtek, Milánek, and Luigino Camastra.
