FCC Enforces Stronger Rules to Protect Customers Against SIM Swapping Attacks

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States is enacting new regulations with the goal of shielding customers against cell phone account fraud schemes that enable malevolent actors to plan port-out and SIM-swapping schemes.



_x000D_While port-out fraud happens when the scammer changes a victim’s phone number without the victim’s knowledge, SIM switching refers to moving a user’s account to a SIM card under the fraudster’s control by tricking the victim’s wireless carrier.
