Hack-for-Hire Groups May Be the New Face of Cybercrime

In a recent paper, Google’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG) discussed the rise in hacking-for-hire behaviour. In contrast to Malware-as-a-Service (MaaS), companies who perform hacks for hire carry out complex, manual attacks. They run campaigns that target a variety of users while also taking advantage of known security holes.

Human rights and political activists, journalists, and other high-risk users have been targeted by hacking groups for hire, putting their privacy, safety, and security at danger, according to Google TAG. They also engage in corporate espionage while deftly masking the identity of their clients.
