As part of its August 2023 Patch Tuesday upgrades, Microsoft addressed a total of 74 software problems, a decrease from the substantial 132 vulnerabilities it fixed the previous month. This includes one Moderate, 67 Important, and six Critical vulnerabilities. Two defense-in-depth updates for Microsoft Office and the Memory Integrity System Readiness Scan Tool have been released in addition to the security upgrades.
The fixes come on top of the 30 bugs that Microsoft fixed in its Chromium-based Edge browser since Patch Tuesday last month as well as one side-channel bug affecting specific AMD processor models. ADV230003 relates to a remote code execution vulnerability in Windows HTML and Office that has been extensively exploited and is already known to exist. This issue is tagged as CVE-2023-36884.
