Microsoft: This Mac malware is getting smarter and more dangerous

UpdateAgent, a relatively recent piece of Mac malware that started off taking system information in late 2020 but has evolved into a tool for delivering adware and probably other threats, has been disclosed by Microsoft.

The malware has been reported by Microsoft because it appears to be in active development. It currently distributes Adload, a “unusually persistent” adware threat, but Microsoft warns that it might be exploited in the future to distribute other, more harmful payloads. Microsoft, for example, discovered that its developers use Amazon Web Services’ S3 and CloudFront services to host additional payloads.
