Education giant Pearson fined $1M for downplaying data breach.

Pearson agreed to pay a $1 million civil money penalty to settle claims that it tried to conceal and downplay a 2018 data breach in the United States that resulted in the loss of “student data and administrator login credentials of 13,000 school, district, and university customer accounts.”

Customers’ personal information, such as statements, transaction lists, names, and account numbers, could have been accessible to other Chase banking members.
