Ransomware profits reach "staggering" levels as businesses fail to implement MFA properly

Research has emphasized the ongoing threat posed by ransomware and identified many situations where multi-factor authentication (MFA) was either poorly implemented or completely absent as a contributing factor. Rapid7’s team conducted research and found that 39% of the events managed by its managed services team in the first half of 2023 were caused by MFA problems.



Additionally, the caseload for researchers grew by 69% annually.x000D While phishing payloads accounted for 13% of assaults, vulnerability exploitation accounted for 27%, and remote access accounted for 39% of attacks as the attackers’ initial access methods.
