RapperBot Targets Game Servers with Modified Brute-Force and DDoS Attacks

A Russian ransomware variant known as “Zeppelin” infected a technological manufacturer where Peter manages IT in May 2020. Because of the way his predecessor had designed the system, Zeppelin was also used to encrypt the company’s data backups when he had been working there for less than six months.

After stalling their extortionists for two weeks, Peter’s superiors were prepared to give in and pay the demanded ransom. Then an FBI agent called, which was quite unlikely. Don’t pay, said the agent. “We’ve located a cracker of the encryption.”
