Chinese researchers RSA is breakable Others Do not panic

Because some mathematical problems that are the foundation of the most popular cryptographic methods of today will be considerably simpler to answer with quantum than with “classical” computers, quantum computing presents both a big opportunity and a great threat to internet security. Chinese researchers have said that the RSA method, the cornerstone of secure internet communication, can be broken using an existing algorithm and current quantum computers. The publication’s credibility is questioned at the same time. The main assertion of the study, which was released last Christmas by 24 Chinese academics, is that they have discovered an algorithm that makes it possible to break 2,048-bit RSA keys even with the comparatively low-power quantum computers that are now in use.
