Retailers brace for cyberthreat feast ahead of Thanksgiving shopping weekend

Retailers are preparing for a spike in cyber activity ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday and Black Friday weekend as threat groups try to disrupt vital supply lines and entice shoppers with huge discounts. The Retail and Hospitality ISAC reports that threat organizations are employing social engineering to get beyond multifactor authentication and obtain credentials, putting retailers at risk from phishing as a first intrusion vector.



Threat groups are now more sophisticated and mobile thanks to generative AI. Trustwave SpiderLabs researchers alerted us to the possibility that LLMs such as WormGPT and FraudGPT could create more difficult-to-detect malicious emails.
