Sophos Reveals 76% of Ransomware Attacks Successfully Encrypt Data

For the Sophos State of Ransomware 2023 research, 3000 cybersecurity and IT leaders were questioned in the first quarter of 2023. These CEOs represented businesses with staff counts ranging from 100 to 5000 and revenue ranges from less than $10m to more than $5bn from 14 different countries. Here are some startling data from the study.

In the previous year, 76% of ransomware victims had their data successfully encrypted by attackers. The number of ransomware assaults in the educational sector was the highest. Around 80% of organisations serving the lower education sector and 79% of institutions of higher learning reported being attacked by ransomware.
