Windows Hello Fingerprint Authentication Bypassed on Popular Laptops

After putting three well-known laptops’ fingerprint sensors to the test for Windows Hello, security researchers were able to get past each device’s authentication. Microsoft’s Offensive Research and Security Engineering (MORSE) and Blackwing Intelligence, a security engineering and research services provider, carried out the study.



The targets were a Microsoft Surface Pro X with an ELAN sensor, a Lenovo ThinkPad T14s with a Synaptics sensor, and a Dell Inspiron 15 with a Goodix fingerprint sensor. Both the host and the integrated fingerprint sensors were the targets of hardware and software attacks.
