Chenguang Gong, a 59-year-old dual US-Chinese citizen, has pleaded guilty to stealing over 3,600 classified files from U.S. electronics and defense firms, including infrared missile-jamming sensors and radiation-hardened space cameras. The FBI confirmed that he transferred the files to personal drives shortly before joining a rival competitor in the same field.
Since 2014, Gong had been pitching sensitive US technologies to Chinese state-backed “talent programs”, seeking financial incentives. Despite claiming to travel to China for family reasons, he remained in the U.S., where he continued stealing data.
