New Python malware backdoors VMware ESXi servers for remote access

Hackers can now remotely control a hacked device by using a previously unknown Python backdoor that targets VMware ESXi servers. A virtualization platform called VMware ESXi is frequently used in businesses to run several servers on a single device while more efficiently leveraging CPU and memory resources.

Juniper Networks researchers located the new backdoor on a VMware ESXi server, where they detected it. Due to the short log retention period, they were unable to ascertain how the system had been compromised.
