Russian Hackers Target Ukrainian Servicemen via Messaging Apps


A new report from Ukraine’s State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection (SSSCIP) reveals that Russian hackers are increasingly targeting Ukrainian servicemen through messaging apps, such as Signal, to obtain personal data, exploiting trust by impersonating acquaintances or using dating platforms. These cyberattacks, attributed to Russia-aligned UAC-0184, involve distributing malware disguised in files like combat footage. The report also highlights a 40% rise in malware incidents and details a March 2024 cyberattack by UAC-0002 on nearly 20 Ukrainian energy entities via supply chain compromises, potentially amplifying the impact of missile strikes.
