U.S. cybersecurity and intelligence agencies have issued a warning regarding ongoing ransomware attacks by an Iranian hacking group known as Pioneer Kitten, also called Fox Kitten. This group, linked to the Iranian government, has been targeting multiple organizations across the U.S., including sectors such as education, finance, healthcare, and defense. Pioneer Kitten collaborates with ransomware affiliates to gain access to networks and deploy file-encrypting malware, aiming to extort victims for ransom. The attacks, which have been ongoing since at least 2017, exploit vulnerabilities in internet-facing systems to establish persistent access, escalate privileges, and spread within targeted networks.
