Peiter 'Mudge' Zatko Lands Role as CISA Senior Technical Adviser

The former hacker and Twitter security executive will utilize his position to assist in carrying out the National Cybersecurity Strategy goals of the Biden administration. Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, a former head of security for Twitter and a “executive in residence” at the cybersecurity company Rapid7, has accepted a new position with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), where he will start working part-time as a senior technical adviser.

In 1998, at one of the first congressional hearings on cybersecurity, Zatko, a member of the L0pht hacker collective, warned the nation about security risks before testifying before a Senate committee. In filing a complaint against Twitter with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Justice Department, he is also referred to as a whistleblower.
