Report: 66% of CISOs Worry Defenses Lag Behind Threats, Highlighting C-Suite Disconnect

A recent Ernst & Young report reveals a significant gap in cybersecurity perception between CISOs and other C-suite executives. While 66% of CISOs worry that cyber threats are outpacing their organization's defenses, only 56% of their C-suite peers share this level of concern. The study highlights further disconnects: CISOs are more likely to feel senior leaders underestimate cyber risks (68% vs. 57%) and have differing views on the primary sources of past breaches (cybercriminals vs. insider threats). Additionally, opinions diverge on the effectiveness of AI investments versus employee training in reducing incidents. Despite these perception gaps, cybersecurity budgets are expected to increase, with 38% of C-suite leaders anticipating spending over 10% of the IT budget on security next year.
