Japanese electric motor manufacturer Nidec confirmed that business and internal documents were stolen in an August 2024 ransomware attack targeting its Vietnam-based subsidiary, Nidek Precision (NPCV). After refusing to pay the ransom, the attackers published 50,694 stolen files, including internal documents related to procurement, safety, and business transactions, on a Tor-based leak site. The attack likely occurred after attackers obtained credentials for an NPCV domain account. Nidec has since reviewed server access rights, changed passwords, and suspended the VPN used in the attack. The Everest ransomware group is suspected to be behind the breach.
