Microsoft has released a patch to fix a critical issue causing Remote Desktop sessions to freeze on Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 24H2 systems. The issue was introduced by the February 2025 security update (KB5051987), leading to unresponsive mouse and keyboard inputs during Remote Desktop usage. Affected users had to manually disconnect and reconnect their sessions. To address this, Microsoft rolled out update KB5052093 for Windows 11 24H2 and KB5055523 for Windows Server 2025. Additionally, Microsoft leveraged its Known Issue Rollback (KIR) feature to mitigate problems with RDS connectivity involving UDP traffic between newer clients and older Windows Server 2016 hosts. This targeted patch helps restore Remote Desktop reliability and addresses growing concerns from IT administrators experiencing widespread disruptions.
